Geo-location tracking for Android devices

Learn how to track Android devices using Geo-location tracking

Written by Shreenidhi Shivkumar

Android Geo-Location and Tracking provides visibility into the physical locations of enrolled company devices. This capability helps you track devices during lost or stolen device investigations, verify compliance, and confirm that devices are in their expected locations. You can actively monitor them at both the individual device level and across your entire organization.

Before you begin

To use location tracking, ensure that you meet the following requirements:

  • Devices must be enrolled as Fully Managed or Kiosk Android devices. For enrollment instructions, see the guide on how to manually enroll Android devices.

  • The Share location toggle under Policy management->Android device policy->Restrictions > General must be enabled. If this is turned off, location data won't be available for the device.

Viewing individual device locations

You can view the current location and the location history of any enrolled Android device from its asset page.

  1. Navigate to the Assets module and open the specific Android device. The page opens to the Summary tab by default.

  2. Locate the Current Location card to view a map showing the location of the device.

  3. Click the expand icon in the top right corner of the Current Location card to open the Location Tracking section under the Details tab.

  4. Select a date range from the filter options to view historical paths. The map displays numbered markers representing the device's path, while the sidebar lists the specific coordinates and timestamps.

Viewing your organization's Device fleet map

You can view all devices belonging to your organization on a single map to check device distribution across multiple sites.

  1. Navigate to My organization->My company.

  2. Click the Device Fleet Map button to view all enrolled devices on a single map.

Things to know

Please keep the following details and limitations in mind when using location tracking:

  • Location history is retained for 30 days. If no location data is available within this window, an informational banner is displayed.

  • This feature does not support BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) enrollments.
