What is CNAME?
A Canonical Name or CNAME is a type of DNS record that maps a custom domain name to the original/canonical domain name. The CNAME record is generally used to map website and mail subdomains to the original domain that hosts the subdomain's content.
Setting up CNAME in the platform
The process to map your custom domain is a simple and straightforward one.
Click the settings icon on the panel to the left. Under ‘My MSP’, select MSP information in the settings tab.
In this section, you can control and modify all the details related to your MSP. Select the portal URL field, enter the URL of your brand's personal domain that you'd like to map, and click the Setup URL button.
Once you're done, you'll get a verification pending message that displays a CNAME URL (the domain you want to map) and a value URL (the SuperOps.ai URL that you want to map your personal domain to.)
4. Take the CNAME domain and value, log in to your DNS tool, and create a new CNAME record in the DNS file zone to verify and generate an SSL certificate for the personal domain.
5. Once you have added the CNAME record, the platform will automatically detect the verification and generate a security certificate.
For example, in the above screenshot, help.acme.com is my CNAME/custom domain. This domain is my MSP's personal domain and it's the one that needs to be mapped with the default value/domain in SuperOps.ai, which in this case, is acme.superops.ai. I'd then log in to my DNS tool, and create a new CNAME record with these two domains. Once I've confirmed the changes, the SSL certificate will be generated automatically.
📝 Note:
The platform generates the SSL certificate immediately after the verification is complete. It will take two hours at most to get reflected in the server, upon which the certificate status will automatically change to 'active'.
